quartzite 珪岩

Over 3,500 years old, this ancient Egyptian statue depicts Senebtyfy-Ptahemsaf, a scribe ‘who kept royal records in the king’s presence’. His title ‘royal seal bearer’ indicates his high position at the court and we can assume that the statue was made in a royal workshop. His status probably also explains his access to quartzite, a rather rare material exclusively used for high officials and members of the royal family.
See this object, and discover 4,000 years of writing in ancient Egypt, in our UK touring exhibition – opening tomorrow at The Salisbury Museumhttp://ow.ly/22GE3006rFV
